As Founder and President of Odyssey Financial, Nelson has built his practice organically—educating and serving one client at a time. He firmly believes that the best way to stand out in a a crowded marketplace is by delivering unparalleled service. This client-first philosophy remains the foundation upon which Odyssey Financial was built.
Nelson is a graduate of University of Central Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Finance with a minor in Real Estate. He began his professional career in 2007 as a licensed Realtor®, working with real estate investors to help diversify their portfolios through residential and commercial holdings. After several years in the real estate industry, Nelson made the decision to transition into financial services.
In 2011, he joined BENCOR Retirement Consultants, where he began assisting retiring participants with their Special Pay Plans. While he continues to support BENCOR clients, he founded Odyssey Financial to serve individuals and families seeking comprehensive retirement planning outside of a BENCOR relationship. With more than a decade of experience working with participants in the Florida Retirement System, Nelson has developed a specialized focus on serving those who serve our communities—educators, first responders, and civil servants.
Nelson holds multiple securities registrations, including the Series 6, 63, and 65, covering fiduciary standards as well as industry rules and regulations. He also maintains a Florida 2-15 insurance license, enabling him to provide comprehensive insurance planning services, including life, health, and variable annuity solutions.
As an independent financial advisor, Nelson is contracted with a wide range of investment providers. This independence allows him to offer objective, client-focused recommendations tailored to each individual’s financial goals and circumstances. While he has worked with clients across many industries, his primary focus remains on serving public employees. Through his ongoing partnership with BENCOR, he has developed strong working relationships with school boards and government agencies throughout the state of Florida.
Born and raised in Florida, Nelson enjoys the state’s year-round outdoor lifestyle with his wife, Heather, and their son, Nelson Jr. An avid boater and fisherman, he spends much of his free time on the water with his family, making the most of all that Florida has to offer.
